Museum of the Tuna
Built by the Tonosolemare Milazzo Association, it is housed in the beautiful Castle of Milazzo, in the building of the monastery of the Benedictine that overlooks the wonderful panorama of the Tone of Milazzo and the Aeolian islands, It was created to ensure the historical memory of a tuna fishery that no longer exists.

In fact this small treasure preserves the memory of the activity of the Tonnaroti in the seven Tonnare of the peninsula of Milazzo, which used fishing systems and preserved the centuries-old marine traditions of the ancient populations of the Mediterranean, Benefiting from the cyclical return of fish to their places of origin for employment and food aid for their people.

The museum is divided into two parts, one dedicated to fishing and processing, the narrative to visitors is rich and understandable with the help of a virtual reconstruction on video, historical footage of recent years of activity and photos of the era, all supported by miniature works of the factory at sea, made up of the nets of the tuna trap, two of those active in the past in Milazzo, of undoubted historical and artistic value.
Finally, to make the museum’s offer unique, as it is not replicable for contents, a large exhibition of original tools and equipment recovered during the closure of the tuna factory, to the Tone of Milazzo, occurred in the mid-sixties of the last century.
